A: I'm going to assume you are talking about genital herpes infection. The only way you can get this is by having direct, skin-to-skin or genital tissue-to-genital-tissue contact with someone who has the virus. This can rarely happen even when there are no visible blisters in the affected area. The herpes virus doesn't stay alive long enough on toilet seats, shower or tub surfaces, pool or hot-tub edges, etc, to infect someone from having contact with an object. You can only get herpes from direct contact with an infected person!
